Monthly Checklist for a Wedding
If you just got engaged and don't know how to begin planning your wedding, you are not alone. When planning a wedding, there are many things to coordinate and remember. Furthermore, many of the tasks need to be completed within a certain time frame to ensure that your wedding day runs smoothly and with the exquisite panache you desire.
-
Nine to 12 Months in Advance
-
Think of a wedding theme, including colors and decorations. Set the date for your wedding and book a venue for the ceremony and reception. Many venues book up quickly during peak wedding season, so do this early. Next, decide on a guest list, an officiant and a budget, as they are all dependent on the venue's nature and capacity. If you want to hire a wedding planner, do so now so she is with you throughout the entire planning process. Send out Save the Date cards to all of your potential guests. Lastly, start a wedding binder and fill it with photos, notes and magazine cutouts that inspire you, as this will help you actualize your wedding day vision.
Six to Nine Months in Advance
-
Planning your honeymoon can be done together or as a surprise for your fiance. Find and book your caterer, photographer, florist and musicians. Your venue may work frequently with certain companies, so it is worth asking your venue director for recommended vendors; you may get a discount. Order your invitations and request the participation of people whom you want to be in your wedding party. Select the wedding day attire for yourself, your fiance and your attendants. Register your wedding wish list at a retailer and book your honeymoon.
-
Three to Six Months in Advance
-
Select a wedding cake as picturesque as the rest of your wedding. Schedule a gown fitting day for yourself and your bridesmaids. Meet with your venue coordinator to see what kinds of decorations are allowed before selecting a decorator. Select your wedding rings, wedding day accessories, veil and gifts for your attendants and parents. Select hair and makeup artists, if you intend to have them. Mail out your wedding invitations and, if you have any confirmed guests coming to your wedding from out of town, arrange accommodation for them. Order your marriage license and book a limousine. Lastly, select your wedding cake.
Three Months to the Day of the Wedding
-
Make sure that all the pieces of your attire make it to the venue. Order favors for your guests and create a seating arrangement for your reception. Finalize the arrangements with your vendors, officiant and wedding planner. Make sure that all involved have a copy of your wedding's itinerary. Pack for your honeymoon and arrange your wedding rehearsal. Delegate jobs for the day of the wedding, such as ushering guests and laying out seat place cards. Give your wedding ring to the best man and make sure that your maid of honor has your fiance's ring.
