Ideas for Parents for Celebrating a Birthday in the Classroom
A birthday is a very special and fun day for your child, and it can be made even more exciting by celebrating it with their classmates. Kids love sharing special days with their friends, and being their parent is a great excuse to shower them and their classmaters with birthday fun! You can help make your child's day special in the classroom with a few simple ideas to turn a boring school day into an exciting birthday celebration! Does this Spark an idea?
-
Spend Part of the Day in the Classroom
-
If you are a stay-at-home mom or have the ability to take off of work the day of your child's birthday, a fun way to celebrate is to spend part of the day in the classroom with your child! Talk to the teacher beforehand and ask if there is a portion of the day in which you can be their "special guest." You can hang out with your child and their classmates, and maybe even read their favorite book to the entire class.
Join Your Child for Lunch
-
Most schools will let parents come in during lunchtime and share a meal with their child. This is a fun way to break up the day for your child, and show them that you're excited it is their birthday. Maybe the cafeteria workers will coordinate with you to allow you to bring in a cupcake for your child to have them place on their meal tray as a surprise!
-
Bring Treats
-
Although many schools frown upon homemade treats for students, many do not mind if you bring store-bought goodies for the classroom. Check with the teacher before the big day and make sure no children have allergies or aversions to cupcakes or cookies, or whatever it is you decide you want to bring in as a treat. Be courteous and supply napkins and utensils if necessary.
Surprise With Balloons
-
A balloon bouquet is an exciting way to acknowledge your child's birthday at school. Although some schools are not keen on you bringing in balloons and treats (as they can be a distraction from learning), you may be able to talk to the teacher beforehand about bringing them right before the end of the school day. Your child will love the unexpected surprise, and will be excited to head home with a handful of balloons!
Host a Game!
-
Talk to the teacher beforehand if you can bring in a game of some sorts for the classroom to play during a break time. You can be the host of the game, and don't forget that the birthday child gets to go first!
