Walnut Shell Projects
Walnut shells are often simply thrown out without a second thought. It is a great idea to keep them, however, as their thickness and unique texture make them an ideal base for craft projects of all kinds. Here are a few simple and fun projects that make use of your old walnut shells.
-
Pin Cushion
-
Place a small piece of Styrofoam and a few cotton balls inside a walnut shell half. Glue a piece of decorative cloth over the top. It can then be used as a pin cushion.
Ladybug
-
Paint the top of a cracked walnut shell red with acrylic craft paint. Allow it to dry and paint black dots over top, as well as two eyes for a ladybug model or toy. Googly eyes instead of painted eyes add to the effect. A marble underneath the shell will allow it to move around on a flat surface.
-
Christmas Decorations
-
Paint some walnut shells red, green, and gold with acrylic craft paint. Tie ribbons around them and hang them from your Christmas tree and around your house for a handmade decoration.
Miniature Fruit
-
Paint shells red for strawberries or apples, green for limes, yellow for lemons, and orange for oranges with acrylic craft paint. Place them all in a small bowl for a miniature artificial fruit bowl.
