Ideas for Graduation Slideshows
Graduation is one of the most important and memorable milestones in a person's life. It's a time to look back on accomplishments and look forward to the goals ahead. One good way to capture the essence of this time is with a slideshow, because putting pictures and music together brings out powerful emotions.
-
Gather Relevant Pictures
-
When going through your collection of photos, there are potentially hundreds or even thousands (thanks to digital photography) of pictures you may consider using in the slideshow. Try to narrow these down into pictures that are relevant to the theme you're trying to convey. Get pictures with friends, family and classmates. Stick to pictures that are funny, touching or graduation related.
Pick a Graduation Song
-
Depending on the length of the slideshow, you may use one, two or even more songs. Some good song ideas are "Here's to the Night" by Eve 6, "Graduation" by Vitamin C, "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" by Green Day or "School's Out (...For Summer)" by Alice Cooper. Try to use funnier pictures during funnier songs and more touching pictures during more sentimental songs. This adds variety and a theme to your show.
-
Use Transition Effects
-
Virtually every slideshow tool, including PowerPoint, allows you to use transitional effects in between photos. These help keep the show interesting and smooth. However, be careful not to overuse the effects. During lighter moments of the show, you can use more flamboyant transitions, but during more serious moments, simply fading to black and white may be appropriate.
Add Words
-
Adding a simple caption or subtitle to some of the photos can do a couple of things. Firstly, it can add an element of humor or sentimentality to a photograph. Secondly, it can add some vital information to the picture, and inform people who are less familiar with the graduate about the story behind the photo.
