Ideas for Valentine Boxes for School
Valentine's card boxes go hand-in-hand with the classroom tradition of exchanging cards. A variety of recycled materials make the basis for theses boxes. The best boxes not only hold all the cards the child receives, but they also provide a handy way to store them and transport the cards home at the end of the school day.

Tissue Mailbox
-
Turn either a rectangular or a square tissue box into a card box with only minimal supplies. Once the box is empty, cover it in colorful paper in Valentine's colors such as red, pink, white or purple. Leave the opening on top of the box uncovered, as this forms the slot for the mailbox. Decorate the covered box with cut-out hearts and other embellishments of your choice. To make it look even more like a mailbox, attach a mailbox flag made from poster board to the side with a metal brad.
Card Pouch
-
A card pouch is a quick card holder that is simple enough for even young children to make on their own. Cut out two large hearts from heavy paper or posterboard. Make the hearts at least 10 inches wide. Staple or tape the edges together, leaving the top open. Decorate the front with the child's name and the embellishments of your choice. Attach a paper handle to the top of the heart to make it easy to carry home, if desired.

Valentine's Canister
-
Use coffee cans or empty oatmeal canisters as the basis for this card holder. Wrap the canister in construction paper in Valentine's-appropriate colors. Cut a slit in the canister lid for the cards to slip through. Decorate the outside of the canister and lid with paper cutouts, glitter and other embellishments as desired. Use permanent marker to write the child's name on the lid.
Animal Bag
-
Cut out hearts of various colors and sizes to make an animal bag holder. Glue the hearts to a white paper lunch sack, using the different sizes to form the animal. For example, use the hearts to make a cat. Use two upside down hearts at the top edge of the bag for ears and three small hearts for the eyes and nose. Use medium size hearts for the hands and feet. Use marker or other cutouts to form the whiskers and tail.
