Capture the memory of the day for your graduate.

She has dreamed about this year and event for the past 12 years of school. It marks a major milestone in her life as she transitions from childhood to adulthood. Celebrate the graduate's joyous occasion with her by giving her a gift. Choose a gift that is thoughtful and practical as you stay within your budget.

  1. Frame the Date

    • Pick up money printed the year of the graduation and a mat of one of the school colors. A mat is a thin piece of material with slips between the glass of the frame and the item behind it. Write the date of the graduation in large numbers on the bottom of the mat and the graduate's name on the top. Place a crisp new $10 bill inside the mat and glue a quarter, nickel, dime and penny on each corner. Place it into the frame and wrap.

    Memories

    • Graduation is filled with memories, pictures and items your graduate wants to save. A large photo album or scrapbook in school colors provides this option. So does a shadow box. A shadow box resembles a display case, only smaller, which allows the graduate to display both pictures and three-dimensional items in a frame. Pick one with enough room to hold the tassels from the top of the hat, dried flowers or balloons received, and other small mementos.

    Money

    • The graduate may be planning a vacation or going off to college and would appreciate gifts of cash. This type of gift allows him to build up a larger sum that he may use for books, travel expenses or school clothes. However, rather than just handing him cash, be creative and make a money book by folding the bills in half and using cardboard on both ends. Write a message, such as "Knew you could do it -- Congratulations!" in front. Or, you could put the money into a money clip or wallet.

    Luggage

    • Whether she is off to college or just traveling to the next state, a piece of luggage makes a nice gift. Choose a piece with good wheels and large enough to crate her clothes. Look for one with multiple pockets for her accessories and a waterproof pocket for makeup and grooming supplies. One option is to combine your gift with several other gift givers so she ends up with the complete luggage set.
