Don't let the decorations divert attention from the couple of the day.

Decorating for a wedding should enhance the venue, not detract from its beauty. If your venue is already gorgeous, you may need only a few touches to prepare it for your wedding. If it's not quite so pretty, you may need to mask a few things to make it look gorgeous.

  1. Trees

    • Place a few trees in the background at the front of the ceremony site. If you are getting married outdoors, this is not really necessary. Indoors, this can help to hide ugly walls or other items at the front of a church that you do not want seen. Real or artificial, you can get trees in large pots that look nice gathered together.

    Flowers

    • Place flower arrangements in front of the trees to hide the pots. You can also place them up any stairs or walkways. Place flowers along windowsills or along a podium or counter. These arrangements can be in tall vases or low to the ground. The size and height of the arrangements will depend on the venue. Use flowers that will stay fresh and firm throughout the ceremony.

    Candles

    • Place one or two large candelabra along the back of athe venue. They can be used in a church, garden or beach wedding. Place a single taper candle at the end of each pew in a church to light the way to the front of the church. At a beach or another outdoor wedding, use tiki torches instead of candles. Don't forget a unity candle. You can decorate the candelabra with greenery, ribbons and flowers to give it a softer look; be sure the greenery is not too close to the flame.

    Pew Decorations

    • Drape tulle from pew to pew. If you don't like the draping effect, simply make a large tulle bow. You can add a bit of color by fixing ribbon or flowers at the top of each pew end and allowing it to drape down a little. Don't make it too long or the bride and bridesmaids may trip over them. If you just like the flower look, make paper cones and place a small bouquet inside. Hang it from the end of the pews.
