Worship Resources for Children

Teaching children about God and religion with worship resources is an important way to learn what children think about talking with God and liturgies. Multiple worship resources show hymnals, songs, poems, stories and Bible readings that help children to recognize God in their lives. With the help of worship resources, your child learns faith as well as how to pray and participate in church functions.

  1. United Methodist Committee on Relief

    • United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) provides art, bulletin inserts, children's sermons, music, prayers and poems, worship services and collections of resources for visitors. Among their children's sermons, UMCOR lists Joseph and the Famine (Genesis 45:3-11, 15), Our Offerings and the One Great Hour of Sharing Offering (Deuteronomy 26:1-11), and a Topsy Turvy God (Luke 1:46-55), which is for Advent and Christmas. UMCOR also lists several songs, including "God, Whose Love is Always Stronger" and "God Who Weeps When We Are Weeping."

    United Church of Christ

    • United Church of Christ (UCC) offers multiple worship resources for children. Its website shows pictures, videos and important topics to discuss with children. Its menu of worship resources includes child care and early education, children and youth justice issues, choosing a Bible for children, human sexuality and children, learn what they read, safe fun for children, safety and protection of children in church, stewardship and children, and the multicultural bibliography.

    Today's Liturgy with Children

    • Another worship resource offered by OCP (formerly known as the Oregon Catholic Press). Today's Liturgy with Children program offers family center religious development, ideas for celebrating saints and feasts of the seasons, music in divine worship, preparing children for Easter, gospel talk with children and other resources with hymnals, Bible study and religious stories. Teachers offer advice to parents on the OCP website about how to advise and help children grow with God, such as in their article "Children Talking with God," which shows how to help children pray and speak to God about their needs and feelings.

    Faith at Home

    • The Faith at Home website offers articles on how to help foster the faith in children as well as worship and church school programs. Its articles focus on bringing faith into the family life and how to help children go to church every Sunday. Faith at Home also has several worship resources that link to books and sites to help parents teach religion and spirituality to their children, including "Incorporating Children and Young People in the Church" and "Parenting in the Pew," which is a guide by Robbie Castleman.
