Career objectives are the career goals of any candidate, whether a sales person or administrative assistant. Career objectives are often presented at the beginning of a resume. A sales person's career objectives need to focus on the needs and demands of the sales industry to have a strong impact on the employer reviewing the job application and resume in question. Focus on your abilities, skills and goals in sales when writing your career objectives for a sales person position.
Knowing the Products
Sales people should have a good understanding of the products or services they are selling. This can include product specifications or product possibilities, such as product expansion packages or product combinations, for example. Customers may be looking to purchase products that can be expanded by purchasing additional parts, so your job as a sales person is to help the customer identify the proper parts. A career objective may be that you strive to provide customers with the proper product knowledge and specifications to suit their needs, for example. The employer viewing your resume and career objectives want to know that you put customers first.
Negotiating Agreement Terms
Some employers will have sales agreements with customers to ensure that the products or services being sold are suited for the customers' needs. Some employers will have a single agreement that applies to all customers, while others will create new agreements for each customer. As a sales person, you may be responsible for drafting these agreements and writing out specific terms and conditions for specific customers in question. One of your career objectives could be that one of your goals is to provide customers with suited agreement terms through negotiation and professional communication.
Communicating with Customers
Communication is an important skill to have as a sales person. You must sell your expertise to the customer, while answering any questions she may have about products, services or sales procedures. One of your career objectives on your resume should include your goal of communicating in a professional manner when speaking with customers or clients. Add that this is an objective because it is your goal to provide customers with the best information available.
A successful sales person knows not only how to approach new customers, but also when to approach them. Knowing the market and how to best utilize the market is a skill that sales persons need to be successful. As a career objective, you could write that your goal is to know the market at any given time and use this knowledge to your advantage in your sales and networking opportunities.
