Do Savings Accounts Have Routing Numbers?

Routing numbers identify the bank involved in a financial transaction. Checking accounts, savings accounts, lines of credit, money market accounts and wire transfers all have routing numbers. Banks such as Wells Fargo and Bank of America have different routing numbers -- also called routing transit numbers or aba numbers -- for each state.

  • Routing numbers identify the location of the branch where you originally opened your account. Banks such as Bank of America and Wells Fargo have online tools that will help you identify the routing number for your state. Note that some banks may have more than one routing number for a state. TD Bank, for example, has one number for the New York City metro area and another number for upstate New York.
