Technical Colleges in the Atlanta & Metro Atlanta Area

Atlanta is a thriving city and is home to many high-tech industries and corporations. As you would expect, the Atlanta area hosts several technical schools to train workers to fill jobs in these fields. The areas of study offered by these schools ranges from EMT certification to technical areas such as computer-aided drafting (CAD).

  1. Atlanta Technical College

    • Atlanta Technical College is part of the Georgia State Technical College System. It is located at 1560 Metropolitan Parkway Southwest in Atlanta. The college offers more than 80 programs with options for degrees, diplomas or certificates, depending on the student's needs. The college is accredited both by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Commission of the Council on Occupational Education. There are full-time, part-time, evening and online courses available to students.

    Herzing University

    • Herzing University is located at 3393 Peachtree Road, NE in Atlanta. The college was opened in 1949 as Massey Junior College, and became part of the Herzing system in 1979. The Atlanta campus also administers campuses in New Orleans, Louisiana and Orlando, Florida. It is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and also holds specific accreditations in several areas such as medical assisting and surgical technology. These accreditations allow the school to award associate degrees.

    ITT Technical Institute

    • ITT Technical Institute is one of the nation's largest technical schools. The Atlanta campus is located at 485 Oak Place, Suite 800 in Atlanta. The school's programs are divided into four administrative units, which are the School of Information Technology, the School of Electronics Technology, School of Drafting and Design and the School of Criminal Justice. The school offers bachelor's degrees and associate degrees, as well as certificates and diplomas. Class schedules are flexible, allowing students to choose from morning, afternoon and evening classes to fit their needs.

    Spectrum Technical Institute

    • Spectrum Technical Institute is a non-profit institution whose stated purpose is to mentor "at-risk" youth and young adults by providing them the training necessary to find a job and start a career. The college is located at 2692 Harris St., No. A1 in Atlanta. The college was founded in 1995 and began holding classes in 1997. The focus is in the area of computer technology and audio-visual production training. The school also offers extensive job-placement training and assistance.

    DeVry University

    • DeVry University is located in the Galleria 100 Building in downtown Atlanta. The Atlanta campus is one of many campuses the university has across the United States and Canada. DeVry began as a technical college, but has since expanded its offerings. Today, the college offers associate, bachelor's and master's degrees in 34 areas. The school's main focus is still on technology in areas such as engineering and information technology. The school also offers an online degree program for several fields.
