The goal of the National Trust for Historic Preservation is to financially support preservation work throughout the U.S. Money can be used in an emergency when a landmark is threatened and as a matching grant for education and planning. The recipient can be a nonprofit or a for-profit, an organization or an individual.

Hart Family Fund for Small Towns

Focusing on towns with populations of 5,000 or less, grants in 2011 range from $5,000 to $10,000 and are available for preservation and revitalization projects. Application for this grant should be made to the town's regional office of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
Battlefield Preservation Fund

Grants, ranging from $1,000 to $5,000, are available for the preservation of battlefields, view sheds and other historic structures relating to the battlefield. Application should be made to the closest chapter of the Battlefield Preservation Fund.

National Trust Preservation Funds Matching Grants

Matching grants, to be used for professional services in architecture, fund raising, archeology, engineering and preservation planning, range from $500 to $5,000. Application should be made to the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
Johanna Favrot Fund for Historic Preservation

Grants are provided to non-profit groups and agencies with values from $2,500 to $10,000. The money must be used for projects that, according to the trust's website, recapture an authentic sense of place. For-profit organizations and individuals can apply if the project involves a National Historic Landmark. Application should be made to the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Fund for Historic Interiors

Funds are provided to nonprofit agencies and organizations. The grants can range from $2,500 to $10,000 and the money must be used for preserving, restoring and advancing the interpretation of historic interiors. Individuals and for-profit organizations can apply if the money will be used for a National Historic Landmark. Application should be made to the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
The Partners in the Field Challenge Grant for Statewide and Local Partners

This is a collaborative program between the National Trust for Historic Preservation and local and state preservation groups and agencies. The goal of the program is to improve the availability of preservation services on a local level. Grants for this program are only available to National Trust state and local partners. Application should be made to the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
The Richard and Julia Moe Fund for Statewide and Local Partners
