Surround a votive candle with a wreath for a unique look.

Votive candles create a romantic, warm glow for your wedding event. Even better, you can stock up on votive candles for a low price. Using various supplies, you can transform simple votive candles into a variety of centerpieces, decorative accents and wedding favors.

  1. Wrap Them Up

    • Easily transform a votive candle by wrapping the holder. Wrap frayed silk material around the holder and glue in place for a romantic touch. Wrap the holder in yarn for a country or whimsical look. For an elegant addition, add a thick colored ribbon. Place a craft jewel or marble in the middle of the ribbon. Place the candles in a row in the middle of your guest tables.

    Add Paper

    • Raid your scrapbook supply and add paper around the votive candle holder. Wrap floral paper around the holders for a cohesive look. Gather a group of candles in various sizes, cut paper in the same size as candles and wrap the paper around the candles. Use sequin pins to add bling and keep the paper in place. Tie ribbon in the same color over the scrapbook paper and add embellishments. For a different idea, use a punch to create a decorative border. Glue to the votive candle holder. Tie ribbon around the holder. Place an adhesive flower to the middle of the holder.

    Place In a Dome

    • Place several items in a clear bowl such as a fish bowl. For example, add sand, seashells, starfish and your votive candle together for a beach themed wedding. Use a terrarium bowl and add a cactus, flower, greenery and votive candles for a Southwestern wedding or an eco-friendly theme. Place as your centerpiece.

    Outside Decor

    • Place a votive candle inside a decorative lantern. Place the lantern as your centerpiece or string in trees leading up to the reception area. Place votive candles in paper bags. Cut a decorative shape on the bags. Use as luminaries on the walkway to the reception venue.

    Flower Holders

    • Place decorative rocks, stones or gems on the bottom of the votive candle holder. Fill the remainder with very small flowers such as clay miniature calla lilies. Place the votive holders all around the venue, alternating the votive holders with candles and flowers.

    Centerpieces

    • Use candles of varying heights amid votive candles for a simple, yet elegant centerpiece. Place a string of votive candles across the tables with flower petals in between the candles.

    Favors

    • Add decorative bride and groom stickers to your votive candles or engrave your name onto the votive candle holders for a personalized favor. As an alternative, add a meaningful poem to the votive holder and glue in place. Print a tag with your names and wedding date, punch a hole in the side and wrap ribbon through the hole and around the holder. Place the votive holder in a tulle bag and tie the bag with colored ribbon. Present the candles to your guests for favors.

    With Flowers

    • Place a wreath or string of greenery around several votive candles. As an alternative, string votive candles onto the branches of a cherry blossom tree. Place in the middle of your guest tables.
