Nutrition Dense Super Foods

Nutrition Dense Super Foods thumbnail
Blueberries are sweet and nutritious.

Super foods are those containing vital nutrients that everyone benefits from eating. The nutrients in super foods are often difficult to get from other dietary sources, or are linked to fighting disease. Super foods also contain dietary requirements such as fiber and protein. Incorporate nutrition-dense super foods into your diet and reap the rewards.

  1. Avocados

    • Avocados contain monounsaturated fat, which is linked to reduced risk of heart disease and cancer. According to Ed Bauman, Ph.D., avocados stabilize blood sugar. They are also high in lutein, which can improve vision. This super food may be high in fat, but it is a healthy fat.

    Blueberries

    • Blueberries are chock full of nutrients. They are considered ideal for anti-aging, as they contain copious amounts of antioxidants. Blueberries also contain anthocyanins, which can boost brain function. Another potent cancer fighter, blueberries are easy to integrate into your diet, as their sweet taste makes them enjoyable.

    Pomegranates

    • Whole pomegranates are full of antioxidants. This fruit contains almost three times the amount of antioxidants in green tea and wine. The effects of regular consumption of pomegranates can include slowed aging and a reduced risk of cancer. Pomegranate juice imparts similar benefits. The juice can reduce plaque in the arteries.

    Fish

    • Fish, especially wild salmon and sardines, are full of omega-3 acids. Eating fish may reduce your risk of cancer, diabetes, arthritis and heart disease. Omega-3 fatty acids may also help depression. Though wild salmon and sardines are ideal, other types of fish are acceptable if you find them more palatable.
