The main streets in Brevard, North Carolina, shut down early on the Fourth of July to prepare for the special children's parade. For days and weeks before the parade, local children decorate their bikes and helmets, reflecting their artistic abilities. Children decorate with ribbons, paint, stickers and even car horns. They gather at the town center at 1 p.m.; the parade begins a half hour later. Bike judging categories include most patriotic, most creative and most unusual. The names of first- and second-place winners of each category are posted at the town's website.
