Free of the bloody violence of mature titles, several games teach younger players strategic thinking in planning for battles. The long-running "Advance Wars" series is a prime example. Players control units on a grid, and must account for the strength of their units, the terrain around them and the distance from which they can attack when making decisions in these chess-like games. Most of these titles have been released for handheld devices, such as the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS.
