Winter Carnival Ideas for School
A winter carnival is a great way to help kids beat the winter blues while simultaneously raising money for the school. Provide winter-themed carnival games, arts and crafts and refreshments. Including an auction allows you to raise even more money. Consider other unique ways of making the carnival special, such as a homemade ice skating rink.

Games
-
Put a seasonal spin on classic carnival games such as pin the nose on the snowman instead of the donkey and winter-themed ring toss. Collect plush snowmen and reindeer, snowmen and winter character figurines and snowman/winter themed candy. Instruct the children to attempt to toss rings on the assorted items. Successful throwing of a ring around an item wins the child that item. Bean bag knockdown is another carnival game you can winterize by wrapping white construction paper around empty soda cans or plastic bottles and drawing snowman faces on them. Create a skating area by pouring water on an even stretch of ground and letting it freeze. Ensure the ice is thick enough before allowing children to skate on it.
Crafts
-
Create a craft section at your carnival where kids can use assorted Styrofoam balls to make 3D snowmen, or use white felt and white pom poms to create 'melting' snowmen. Reuse soda and water bottles to create penguin crafts with white and black acrylic paint, small Styrofoam balls and black and yellow craft foam sheets. Fill the bottles with sand to weigh them down. Use fabric paint and snowflake patterns to make snowflake designs on plain white t shirts.

Concessions
-
Provide winter-themed concessions including snow cones, hot chocolate, cider and tea, and market cotton candy as "pink and blue snow." Sell candy in seasonal packaging and provide other traditional carnival-theme food items such as funnel cake, popcorn, pizza, pretzels, corn dogs, pizza and french fries. Place whipped cream and marshmallows on hot chocolate and serve hot soup.
Auction
-
Consider an auction as an additional way of raising funds. Ask local businesses to donate items or gift cards such as baskets of hair and body care products, sporting goods, watches, free or discounted meals at a local restaurants, books, free yoga/fitness classes or free workshops or lessons such as pottery classes and tennis lessons. Whether you would like the auction to be silent or not is up to you.
