Incorporating pumpkins into the centerpieces for an autumn wedding is one way to capture the spirit of the season. Their bright orange will complement the bride's choice of fall colors. Pumpkins are especially useful because they come in multiple sizes and they can be carved for various purposes. Use pumpkins to create distinctive centerpieces that the guests will be sure to remember.

  1. Candle Holders

    • Create a centerpiece with candles. Hollow out the centers of mini pumpkins and insert candles. Arrange the pumpkin candle holders in groupings of three to five on a decorative plate or tray in the center of the table. Use white candles or colored candles that match the decor. Try mixing candles of different heights and widths for a more elaborate look. Add leaves, berries and fruit around the candle holders.

    Flower Arrangements

    • Use pumpkins as containers for flower arrangements. Hollow out the center of a medium pumpkin. Be sure all the pulp is removed. Place a piece of floral foam in the bottom center of the pumpkin. Use fresh or silk flowers and arrange their stems in the floral foam inside the pumpkin. Use flowers such as mums, daisies, lilies and sunflowers. Add wheat stalks and berries to your arrangements for added autumn flair. Tie a decorative ribbon around the pumpkin vase or hot glue a bow to its top. Place the arrangements on the tables and scatter fall leaves around the bases of the pumpkins.

    Natural Groupings

    • Take advantage of the pumpkin's natural coloring and shape by grouping pumpkins of various sizes in the center of the table. Start with a large pumpkin and add medium, small and mini pumpkins around and on top of it. Arrange a grouping of small and mini pumpkins in a decorative basket. Fill the basket's bottom with autumn leaves and add the pumpkins. Add stalks of wheat and spread a few leaves around and on top of the pumpkins. Wrap decorative ribbon around the base of the basket or tie a bow on the handle. Try painting the pumpkins gold for a different look.

    Lanterns

    • Turn pumpkins into centerpiece lanterns. Remove the bottom of the pumpkin instead of the top. Carve 3-inch circles randomly around the outside of multiple pumpkins. You can also carve stars, the wedding date or the bride and groom's initials into the pumpkins. Place the pumpkins over burning candles. Group three or more pumpkin lanterns. Tie bows around their stems.

    Cornucopias

    • Place a cornucopia in the center of each table. Arrange mini pumpkins inside and outside its opening. Add fall leaves, wheat stalks, mums, sunflowers, apples, nuts, corn and berries in and around the pumpkins to create a brimming cornucopia. Wind decorative ribbon around the cornucopia and place candles around its opening.
