Budget Baby Shower Ideas
With the news of a new addition to the family, planning for a baby shower usually follows. Sometimes, throwing a baby shower for someone can cost a lot of money. However, with a little help from friends, some imagination and a few do-it-yourself projects, you can throw a baby shower on a budget.

Invitations
-
Instead of buying expensive baby shower invitations, create your own. It costs little or no money to make your own invitations by printing them out from online sources or by creating your own artwork on the computer. Use your artwork as the cover for the invitations and print them out on stock paper. If you don't want to spend at all, send an electronic invitation, also known as an e-vite, for free or invite everyone by email.
Decorations
-
Keep baby shower decorations simple if you're on a budget. Creating decorations from things that you already have at home costs nothing at all. Print out a streamer welcoming the guest of honor or pick flowers from your back yard to create centerpieces for tables. If you're hosting the party and don't have children of your own, borrow baby stuffed animals and other toys from your friends who do and use these as decorations, too. However, if you have the budget to spend for inexpensive decorations, you can spruce up the event with crepe paper, balloons, ribbons and decorative paper plates and napkins.

Food
-
Food can be expensive, especially if you're expecting a lot of guests. However, making your own food will cost less than buying food or having the event catered. If you're on a budget, think of serving finger foods or food that serves a lot of people. Make some cheese sticks, mini hot dogs and mini ham and cheese and tuna sandwiches. Serve a pasta salad, lasagna or spaghetti. Make a bowl of punch or iced tea for drinks instead of buying different kinds of soda. Instead of cupcakes or a personalized cake, which can be costly, serve cookies and/or ice cream for dessert.
Games
-
Games can be played without spending any money at all. One activity that costs no money but lets everyone take something home is to have a gift exchange. In your invitation, ask everyone to gift wrap and bring an unused item that they already have. At the shower, each guest will pick a name out of a bag and give that gift to the person they chose. Another game that costs no money is a baby shower memory game. Place as many different baby items that you have or that you borrowed from a friend, such as a diaper, pacifier and a baby bottle, in a box. Open the box to reveal the contents and give each person a few seconds to look inside and then close it. The person who is able to list the most number of items correctly wins.
