History
-
Built in 1897, Mavis Manor was originally the home of Dr. Lonnie Lilly, who ran the town's medical practice. His wife designed the house to be a destination for his patients. Since the home had 12 rooms, 10 closets and seven fireplaces, it was big enough to keep overnight patients who traveled great distances to see Dr. Lilly. The right side of the home had a door specifically for patients visiting Dr. Lilly's office, and his office was equipped with a state-of-the-art trap door designed to keep medications cool.
Area Activities
-
One of the closest attractions to the Mavis Manor is Winterplace, a ski resort that's just a three-minute drive away. There also are several parks in the area, including Camp Creek State Park, Bluestone, Little Beaver and Twin Falls. One of the most popular summer activities is whitewater rafting. The manor has a restaurant onsite that's famous for its blueberry pancakes. Other area restaurants include the Lakeview Restaurant and Brandon's BBQ.
