Combine the world of Harry Potter with learning, to engage kid's minds.

The Harry Potter book series is read by both children and adults, and is filled with characters, places and magical foods that can be incorporated into classroom activities. By merging the world of the boy wizard with every day lessons, students will feel engaged and excited to take part in the learning process.

  1. Book Reports

    • A book report is a natural activity, which you can relate to the Harry Potter series, as there are seven of the books to study. Divide the class into seven groups, and assign one book to each group, having the students thoroughly read the book and report on it. The kids may even pick one chapter, and break it down, creating a Harry Potter lexicon, to catalogue the different magical animals, foods and objects listed in those pages.

    Quidditch

    • Quidditch is the sport played by Harry Potter and his friends, and you can arrange students in an indoor or outdoor Quidditch game, as part of their physical education. Divide the class into two teams, and mack sure to have a series of balls on hand to represent the different balls in the game. Have three goal posts represented on each side of the playing area, and have the students run around using brooms, while they are playing.

    Sorting Hat

    • The sorting hat sorts students in the Harry Potter world into the four houses of Hogwarts, one of the wizarding world's schools. Place cards---that feature one of the four houses (Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw)---into a hat, and let students pull from the hat. Once divided, students can study with their "house" in groups concerning the various subjects that you teach.

    Owl Post

    • The owl post is the post office in the Harry Potter world, and you can set up a similar owl post in the classroom. Have some paper bags decorated with cartoon owls placed around the room. Students can write notes to one another and post them to their friends. During a designated time of day you can pull out these notes and deliver them to the particular recipients. This helps to cut down on whispering and passing notes during teaching portions of the class.
