Ohio's Most Haunted Schools
Ohio is a mid-western state that has many old schools and historic buildings. Many of the schools have a long history of paranormal reports. There are reports of unexplained voices, strange noises and phantom footsteps. The happenings occur in schools all over the state. Some of the buildings are still operating, while others are boarded up. Visitors should take note that ghost hunting is not welcome in most locations and violators are subject to legal action.

The main campus of Ohio State University, on 12th Avenue in Columbus, is the site of many unexplained happenings. A professor committed suicide on the spot where Pomerene Hall stands; many people believe that he haunts the building. Some even report seeing the professor's wife haunting the building looking for her husband. There are reports of doors slamming shut and other random, paranormal activities. Hopkins Hall is the setting of an alleged sighting of a ghostly girl who had a nervous breakdown at the school. She reportedly wrote all over the elevator walls and some say her messages are still showing up.
Higginsport School

The Higginsport School, on State Route U.S. 52 in Higginsport, Ohio, is an abandoned structure where many paranormal events are reported. Built in 1880, and closed in 1993, the school is now used each year as the local haunted attraction. Rumor has it that a man who was working in the basement fell into the boiler and burned to death. Now some say they hear strange voices inside the building.

Oakwood High School

Oakwood High School, on Far Hills Avenue in Dayton, is said to be experiencing two ghosts. The first ghost, allegedly, is that of an elderly man who hanged himself at the school. There are reports of seeing the apparition as well as hearing unexplained footsteps. Other reports include spotting a young woman sitting on a bench in the hallway. There is no history of a girl dying at the school so the small ghost remains a mystery.
Kent State University

The main campus of Kent State University, on East Summit Street in Kent, Ohio, is the site of a shooting that happened in 1970. Several buildings there have been reported to be haunted. Students in Allyn Hall have said a young girl pulls on their sheets and tries to get people to play with her. Residents of Stopher Hall -- demolished in 2004 -- reported that the ghost of a student who committed suicide caused students to become ill and objects to move about. Room B-005, in the Music and Speech building, is said to be haunted by a cigar-smoking ghost.
