Elementary School Decorating Ideas

Transforming your bland elementary space into an engaging and attention-getting den of learning for your students can add some excitement to their school experience. There are a number of ways that you can set your elementary school apart from the rest. By selecting a decorating option and using this option to jazz up your space, you can make a memorable school environment for your students.

  1. Student Mural

    • Let your artistic students leave a mark on your school by creating a student mural. Create an art club, or charge an existing club of this type with the task of designing a mural that is reflective of the school's themes and ideals. Have the club create the mural on paper first, then allow the administration to approve the planned addition. Once approved, transfer the mural to a prominent school wall, outlining it in pencil first then going over it in paint.

    Themed Hallways

    • Give each wing in your school a distinctive feel by creating themed hallways. Decide upon a theme relevant to your school for each of the separate hallways that fill your elementary building. Use colors, academic subjects or animal groups as your themes if appropriate. Paint the walls in the appropriate colors, add characters to wall spaces with paint or by attaching paper or place a border at the top of each wall to establish your theme and decorate your space.

    College-Themed Classrooms

    • Encourage your learners to reach for the stars by creating college-themed classrooms. Assign each classroom a college in your local area, or select from colleges across the country. Have each teacher arrange a group of students to decorate the classroom door. Paint the rooms in hues reflective of the assigned colleges. Purchase pennants, college sweatshirts and other decorative pieces to place in each classroom, finishing the decor and unifying the school.

    Ceiling Tile Decorating

    • Give your classroom ceiling a touch of excitement by decorating it. If your classroom ceiling contains drop-down tiles, pull some down and allow students or groups of students to decorate them. Either clip paper to fit over each tile, or paint the tiles white to create a backdrop for artistic creation. Have artistic students paint the tiles to reflect books that they have read, topics covered in class or classroom rules by which they are to abide. Place the newly decorated tiles back in the proper spots on the ceiling.
