Welding & Metal Forging Crafts

Welding & Metal Forging Crafts thumbnail
Create artwork or functional craft peices using welding and metal forging.

Welding and metal forging crafts offer projects for pleasure and business. Welding is the process of joining two pieces of metal together using heat. Metal forging works by heating metal to high temperatures and then changing the metal by folding and reheating the metal. There are projects and items that can be made that serve a function or those that are considered art. Many individuals think of welding as being used strictly for construction and building. However, there are many professional and hobby welders that use welding to create beautiful pieces of art.

  1. Art

    • Welding artwork can be quite unusual and the welder does not need to spend a lot of money on materials. Instead metal artwork is often created using scrap or recycled metal from the local metal scrap merchant. Much of welded metal is used to form sculptures. Sculptures can be crafted for outdoor as well as interior pieces.

    Home Items

    • Welding can be used to create function crafts and items used around the home. Design and construct metal frames, lamps, wine racks, tables, chairs, candle holders, patio furniture, coat racks and more.

    Weapons

    • Metal forging is the traditional way to create swords. The process used to create swords, folding and hammering metal, will remove any impurities in the metal. This process produces all types of swords made in the traditional style. Forge a specific style of sword or learn how to make a wide range. These swords can be used for movies and television, costumes, re-enactments or as collector pieces. It can take many years to learn the skill needed to be an expert metal forger.

    Jewelry

    • Throughout history metal forging has been used to create jewelry. Unlike other forms of metal forging, many jewelers use cold forging instead of working with hot metal. Jewelry can be made just of metal or precious stones incorporated into the design.
