Brain Buster Games

The Nintendo DS console provides an alternative method for games traditionally played with paper and pen. Sudoku and similar puzzles are available for the DS, including Agetec's game, "Brain Buster Puzzle Pak." This game includes five Brain Busters such as Sudoku and Kakuro. All of the puzzles in the game benefit from an optional hint system that allows you to ask the game for help.

  1. Sudoku

    • Sudoku focuses on logical spatial thinking. The board is a 9-cell by 9-cell grid with lines dividing the grid into nine 3-cell by 3-cell boxes. You arrange the numbers 1 through 9 in the boxes, columns and rows so that no numbers repeat. Many of these puzzles begin with some numbers already placed, so you must solve the rest of the puzzle around them.

    Kakuro

    • Kakuro is a game slightly similar to Sudoku, but requires math. Each row or column has a number printed at the end of it. You place numbers within the grid which add up to the total number at the end of the column. The challenge is to get all of the numbers to add up on the grid, both vertically and horizontally.

    Light On

    • In Light On, you start with a series of bulbs with which you must fill the board. Some numbers printed on the grid dictate where these lights go; you must then logically determine where to place the remaining bulbs. The goal is to illuminate the board by placing all of the bulbs in the correct positions.

    Nurikabe

    • Building an island chain does not require a huge amount of sand and geological disruption, at least not on the DS console. In Nurikabe, you build a series of islands based on certain constraints. The different islands you place require a certain amount of space around them, which is indicated on the islands. You place these with your stylus and may have to move each one a few times before you solve the puzzle.

    Slitherlink

    • Slitherlink presents you with a number-filled grid. You make a single continuous line, but the line cannot cross itself. The number in each cell dictates the number of times you must cross that cell with the line. If the line has the number 2 in it, for instance, you must use that line twice. The end result is a loop design.
