Canasta Caliente is similar to traditional Canasta, but with a few new elements or a twist on old elements. In Canasta Caliente, the object of the game is to be the first to reach 5,000 points by collecting seven of the same card. Canasta Caliente allows for some bonus cards, however, such as a wild card or a block card that can prohibit another player or team from winning. Canasta Caliente also incorporates bonus cards that can add to your points and help you accumulate enough to win the game.

Hand and Foot Canasta
-
Hand and Foot Canasta, also known as North American Canasta, is typically played with four people but the game can accommodate any even number of players. Players are dealt two sets of cards, the first set is called the "hand" and is played with initially. Once all the hand cards are gone the player uses the second set of cards, or the "foot" cards.
Classic Canasta
-
Classic Canasta is generally played by four people, who play in pairs. The game can also be played by two or three players, playing on their own. Classic Canasta is played with two full decks of cards, including the jokers, for a total of 108 cards. The cards form three piles during the game, the cards that are dealt to each player, the stock pile, which is a communal stack of cards in the center of the table and the discard pile, where the discarded cards accumulate. The goal of the game is to form a "meld" of cards, which are cards of similar rank, such as five kings. Seven cards of the same rank is a Canasta.
