Sleepover parties are perfect for exuberant teens.

Hosting a successful sleepover party for your 12-year-old will take some serious planning. From late night gossip, to movies, to scary stories, use your imagination to create the perfect party for your tween and her friends. Help your daughter select the perfect sleepover ideas to make her party a success, as well as one that all her friends will envy. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Invitations

    • Use block letters to stamp the party details on a white pillowcase. Fold the pillowcases up and put them in manila folders to mail to the party guests. Another idea is to hole-punch your invitation, and attach a travel-size toothbrush and toothpaste. Place the items in a padded envelope and mail. Each party guest can bring his toothbrush and toothpaste when he comes to the party.

    Decorations

    • Decorate a large space for the party area by moving furniture and breakables out of the way. Spread several blankets, sleeping bags, couch cushions and pillows around the party area. Cover any windows with black butcher paper to make the room dark. Find white gel pens and let the party guests draw on the butcher paper throughout the night. The guest of honor can roll the paper up to keep as a memory of her party. If the sleepover is a pajama party, put a scarecrow wearing pajamas on the front porch or in the entryway to create giggles as the party guests arrive.

    Crafts

    • Party guests can participate in craft activities they can take home as favors. Purchase a light-colored pillowcase for each guest. The girls can decorate the pillowcase with fabric paint, glitter pens, flowers, buttons and beads. For a fast pillow decorating activity, use die crayons. Die crayons are available at your local craft store and will dry instantly. The party guests can also create funky flip-flops using several pieces of scrap fabric cut into 6-inch strips. Take the strips and tie each strip of fabric around the band of the flip-flops. Fill the entire flip-flop band with fabric strips. Inexpensive flip-flops are available at craft stores.

    Games

    • Have a glow stick hunt for the party guests by hiding several glow sticks around the party area. Turn off the lights and tell them to find as many as they can. The guest who finds the most glow sticks will win a small prize. Everyone can keep his glow sticks to take home as party favors. Play a game of balloon dares by placing small dares, such as stand on your head or sing the chorus to one of your favorite songs, on a piece of paper inside the balloons. Each party guest has to pop at least one balloon and do the dare. Award prizes to the best, funniest and silliest dare completed.
