Summer Film Schools for Seniors
Film school is where people learn the ABCs of how to make a movie. For seniors leaving high school, especially those with a desire to study filmmaking, a summer program can be a good start. Summer film school programs give a broad overview of the basics of filmmaking and will enable seniors to decide whether they want to pursue further education in this area.

New York Film Academy

The New York Film Academy is one of the most widely known and popular film schools. Seniors have two options, the teen summer program, which can run anywhere from a single weekend to six weeks, or the adult summer film program, which lasts eight weeks and is much more intensive. You'll learn the basics of shooting on film and digital cameras as well as editing, lighting, sound, writing and directing.
UCLA Summer Programs

The University of California, Los Angeles puts you right in the middle of all the Hollywood action with its wide variety of summer classes and programs. Seniors have the option of enrolling in the pre-college workshops and conservatories or enrolling as a student and earning college credit for summer programs. The pre-college workshops run one to three weeks each from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. You'll learn writing, animation and basic filmmaking.

USC School of Cinematic Arts

USC (University of Southern California) is known as one of the top film schools in the world. Its summer program is open to anyone 16 years old and up. Seniors entering the program are required to live on campus during the entire summer course and are taught by renowned instructors on everything from computer graphics and business marketing to cinematography. Graduates of the program have gone on to become award-winning filmmakers, studio heads and more.

SOCAPA is all about teaching young people to appreciate the arts, so it's designed just for teens. Enroll in a summer film program and you can even earn college credit. You get to choose whether you want to learn on film or digital cameras and then face the challenge of making three films in three weeks. You'll also have to work as a group on one larger film during your school program experience. Campuses are located in New York, California and Vermont.
