Halloween Food Ideas for Adults

Halloween Food Ideas for Adults thumbnail
Serve some graveyard-inspired food at your next Halloween party.

Halloween isn't just for children. Lots of adults get dressed up in costumes, attend parties and consume candy and other Halloween-themed food and beverages. If you are planning on throwing your own Halloween party but are unsure of what food to serve, consider finger foods and hors d'oeuvres with a spooky theme. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Mummy Dogs

    • Make mummy dogs by wrapping hot dogs in a crisscross manner with breadstick dough. Make sure to leave about a half-inch at the top surface of each hot dog unwrapped for the eyes, but cover the top edge to make it look like the mummy's head wrapping. Next, cut two eye slits on the exposed part of the hot dog and place a mustard seed in each slit. You can also cut a small slit for a mouth which will gape open slightly as the hot dog cooks. Finally, put the hot dog mummies on an ungreased baking sheet, place them in a pre-heated oven at 375 degrees and bake for 15 minutes or until golden in color.

    Bat Bites

    • Bat Bites are cheese balls that resemble a bat's body with a corn chip on either side for wings. To make them, place four ounces of cream cheese, eight ounces of goat cheese and one-quarter cup of pesto in a large bowl. Mash everything together, then cover and place in the refrigerator for 40 minutes. Once the cheese mixture is chilled, make 16 cheese balls (approximately one rounded teaspoon of cheese each) and roll each ball in a mixture of two tablespoons of coarsely ground black pepper and two tablespoons of poppy seeds. Finally, place two slices of olive on each cheese ball to resemble the bats' eyes, one peppercorn in the middle of each olive slice for the pupil and a corn chip on either side for the wings.

    Frankenstein Finger Dip

    • Frankenstein finger dip is simply a veggie dip with five carrot sticks to resemble a hand coming through. To make, fill a serving dish with veggie dip then wash and peel four long carrots (for the fingers) and one medium-length carrot (for the thumb). Next, carve a shallow groove at the tip of each carrot, place a small drop of cream cheese in each groove and top each groove with an almond slice (these resemble the fingernails). Finally, stick each carrot---fingernails up---into the dip in the shape of a hand reach upwards. Serve with a plate of veggies and crackers.

    Other Ideas

    • Other Halloween-inspired food includes pumpkin muffins, pumpkin bread, brownies or cupcakes with orange icing, cookies cut into Halloween-themed shapes and deviled eggs. You can also add food coloring to doughs, sauces and drinks for a festive look. Orange and black are primary Halloween colors, but you can also use red for blood or green for slime.
