3D movies are a great cinematic experience for people young and old.

3D movies have been a major part of the cinematic experience since the late 1800s. The problem with seeing 3D movies then is still a problem that plagues many movie fans: finding a theater equipped to show such movies. As of 2010 that problem is admittedly less severe with most movie houses readily outfitted to project 3D films. The state of Maine has many options all across the state that will feed your hunger for 3D films.

  1. Flagship Cinemas in Waterville, Maine

    • Flagship Cinemas is a chain of movie theaters that service people in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Florida. The Waterville Flagship branch claims to have the distinction of being "central Maine's first 3D cinema." The building has eight auditoriums with digital surround sound. The seats are high-back chairs that allow moviegoers to rock back and forth if they should desire. All of the seating at the Waterville Flagship Cinema is stadium style seating.

    Bangor Mall Cinemas 10 in Bangor, Maine

    • The Boston Culinary Group owns the Bangor Mall Cinemas 10 located in Bangor, Maine. The Bangor 10 has the distinction of being the first movie theater in the state of Maine to offer movies with close captioning. They offer a full schedule of films both day and night 365 days a year. As of 2010, the Bangor 10 has been renovated and now boasts stadium seating in all 10 screens. All of their films are shown with Dolby Digital surround sound.

    Regal Cinemas in Augusta, Maine

    • Regal Cinemas is owned and operated by Regal Entertainment Group. They have 540 theaters in 37 different states. The Regal in Augusta, Maine, has 10 screens. Augusta is in South-central Maine. The Regal shows their 3D films in RealD 3D. This type of 3D is projected in 100 oercent digital format to provide a clear and crisp image.

    Spotlight Cinemas in Orono, Maine

    • Spotlight Cinema, in the Southeast Maine town of Orono, was founded as a second-run theater in 1996. They renovated their facilities in 2004 and as of 2010 are receiving films on their initial release. This includes films that are premiering in 3D. Spotlight houses six theaters that all have stadium seating. They have Dolby Digital sound and picture.
