How to Become a Provider for Cigna

If you work within the health industry, it does not hurt to explore the possibility of becoming a Cigna Provider. The multinational healthcare and insurance company will enable you to provide medical, dental and behavioral health services worldwide to the entire Cigna patient network.

Become Cigna Medical Services Provider

To become a Cigna medical service provider, you should contact Cigna Provider Services at 1 (800) 88Cigna (882-4462) or 800-882-4462 and select your credentialing option. The representative at the other end of the line will assist you in determining if you are eligible to apply for credentialing.

If you qualify for credentialing, Cigna will send you an email with the application packet and all the relevant information to get you started. Some of the documents you need include a DEA certificate, state professional license, board certification status, work history, etc.

However, if you are part of the Council on Affordable Quality Healthcare (CAQH) or One Healthport/Medversant, you can authorize Cigna to use the existing information for the application.

Also, if your state requires it, you will need to submit a state application form after you complete, sign and mail it to Cigna with the necessary documentation.

Once Cigna receives your application packet, they will begin the credentialing process. That will take anywhere from 45 to 60 days. During that time, you will get a confirmation that your application was received, requests for any missing information and updates on the credentialing verification process. And finally, you will receive a confirmation of your approval or rejection.

If you are approved, there will be an email to that effect. And then, Cigna will upload your provider details to its claims systems and directories within 10 business days.

Email PSSCentral@Cigna.com with your full name and Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) for updates on your application process status. Alternatively, you could contact 1 (800) 88CIGNA (882-4462).

Become Cigna Dental Service Provider

If you are a dentist, you should not use the 800-882-4462 number. Instead, contact Cigna via the numbers: 1 (800) Cigna24 (244-6224), or 1 (800) 280-9622 to start the credentialing process. Also, you can opt to email the company representatives at dentistenrollment@cigna.com and provide your office name and address in addition to your name.

Cigna provides an e-onboarding tool that you can use to apply. However, suppose your information is already within the (CAQH) Universal Credentialing DataSource or One Healthport/Medversant systems. In that case, you can authorize the company to use that to make the application process easier.

Most of the application process is similar to the medical service provider version. But as a dentist, you also get access to multiple dental products and network options for your consideration.

For updates on your application process status, email dentistenrollment@cigna.com with your full name and Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) or contact 1 (800) 88CIGNA (882-4462).

Become Cigna Behavioral Health Service Provider

If you are a behavioral health service provider, call 800-882-4462 if you have questions about the application process.

But you can use the Cigna basic guidelines to determine if you are eligible to begin the credentialing process, which will verify your qualifications and experience. For example, if you are a physician with prescriptive authority, you must have professional liability insurance of at least $1 million before you are even considered for the network.

Individual practitioners should fill out the Behavioral Provider Information Form to be considered for the network. But if you live in Maryland, you should not fill the form. Instead, email Cigna at BehavioralHCPEnrollment@evernorth.com.

However, if you practice in North Dakota, Minnesota or western Wisconsin, you can enroll and obtain credentialing via the HealthPartners Provider portal.

On the other hand, if you are applying as a clinic, you should fill the Screening Application for Behavioral Health Clinics and submit it.

If you fall under the facilities category, use the number 1 (800) 926-2273. You’ll receive help to guide you with the application process.

For updates on your application process status, email BehavioralContracting@Cigna.com with your full name and Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) or contact 1 (800) 88CIGNA (882-4462).

Benefits of Becoming a Cigna Provider

Becoming a Cigna provider offers several advantages for healthcare providers. First, it gives you access to over 15 million customers within its network. So, instead of struggling with marketing, you can concentrate on making the people who come to you feel better.

It is also worth noting that medical and healthcare leads are pretty expensive. For each business lead, you should expect to pay an average of $162. And there is no guarantee that you can convert that lead into a long-term patient.

However, if you become part of the Cigna network, you will access the leads with minimal costs. And since they consist of people looking for healthcare providers, it doesn’t take much work to convince them to give your services a chance.

Also, Cigna providers get paid quickly within 30 days of invoicing after providing care to eligible plan members. And over time, your health care practice will grow and experience a lower turnover. Therefore, you won’t struggle to earn a living.

Deciding to Become a Provider

Becoming a Cigna provider is worth considering. But first, you will undergo a lengthy credentialing process if you qualify for it. However, the benefits are worth it. And also, remember that you must go through the re-credentialing process every three years in most states.
