Craft Shows in Northeast Kansas

Craft Shows in Northeast Kansas thumbnail
Northeast Kansas is more populous than the rest of the state, and hosts numerous craft shows.

Spring, summer and fall are all festival seasons in northeast Kansas, where craft shows abound from the Kansas City metro area to the smaller towns throughout the region. Where one finds crafts on display, one also likely finds good food, live music, games, rides and other family friendly entertainment. Craft vendors may have to apply early to get a booth and provide details about their offerings, including photographs.

  1. Art in the Park

    • The Lawrence, Kansas Art Guild hosts Art in the Park the first Sunday of May each year. This juried art and fine craft show places a premium on craftsmanship and originality. Eligible media include painting, photography, ceramics, glass, jewelry, sculpture, and mixed media, both two- and three-dimensional. Each artist who is admitted to the show and pays the booth fee will have a 10-foot by 10-foot space to exhibit. Art Guild members receive a substantial discount on booth fees.

    Maple Leaf Festival

    • Timed to coincide with the fall colors, the Baldwin, Kansas, Maple Leaf Festival has been taking place the third full weekend of October since 1958. For two full days, the town bustles with more than 300 craft exhibits, food vendors, music, antique cars and marching bands. Indoor and outdoor craft booths are available. Local non-profit organizations benefit from the commerce and donations generated by the festival.

    Overland Park Fall Festival

    • More than 200 craft vendors attend the Overland Park Fall Festival each year in Johnson County, Kansas, in the Kansas City metropolitan area. Featuring the Santa Fe Trail Days Parade and local musicians, the festival takes place in downtown Overland Park. Food booths provide typical festival fare such as hamburgers and hot dogs, while the Overland Park Farmers Market offers locally grown produce. Free entertainment includes moonwalks for the kids and a classic car show.

    Paola Roots Festival

    • The annual Roots Festival each August in Paola, Kansas, features two days of live music, barbecue, games and rides in addition to an arts and crafts fair. Vendors should plan to supply their own tents, tables and shelves, and may choose from 10-foot by 10-foot booths or 10-foot by 20-foot booths. Past musical acts have included the Robert Cray Band, Jonny Lang and Kenny Wayne Shepherd.
