Picnic Lunches & Salads for Kids
Going on a picnic with your kids is a great way to spend the day. However, if your kids are picky eaters and you need some ideas for lunch, you may have to get creative. Here are some popular food suggestions for packing picnic lunches, including salads, for a memorable day.

Sandwiches

Most children love peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, which can be made quickly and are always a good standby. Cheese, ham, bologna and turkey are also popular among many kids. For a new twist, try making your sandwiches using tortilla shells. Use mayo, cheese, meat, and lettuce. If you have leftover chicken or turkey from the night before, you can mix mayo, almonds, chicken and grapes, then wrap in a tortilla shell.
Salads

If you are looking for salad ideas, you can always cut up fruit for a fresh fruit salad. If your kids like jello, you can add carrot slivers, peaches, bananas or strawberries to make it a salad. If you don't have time to make a salad, pick up a pasta salad, potato salad or coleslaw from your local grocer.

There are many snacks that children can eat on a picnic. Individually wrapped pudding, crackers, cookies, cheese, yogurt, granola bars, dip and veggies are just some ideas. For a fun vegetable and protein snack, spread peanut butter on a piece of celery and add raisins. Or you can make pickle roll-ups by taking a pickle, spreading cream cheese around it, then wrapping it with a thinly sliced piece of ham. Chill the pickle roll-up in the fridge for a couple of hours, then slice.

Pack juice boxes, water or milk so the kids have something easy to drink.

Make sure you have enough food and drinks, water, paper plates, paper cups, cutlery, napkins, wet wipes and blankets. Also keep food chilled when needed to prevent food poisoning.
