International Travel Itinerary Tools

The Church at Notre Dame is one of dozens of tourist destinations in Paris that you might plug into a travel itinerary tool.

International travel can stress out even seasoned travelers, but a number of tools exist to make the process easier. These tools vary in complexity, from some that keep up only with your flight times to others that will host your tourist plans, hotel information and other important data. The tools are available on a variety of platforms.

  1. Phone Applications

    • Phone applications allow you to download needed information to keep your international travel plans intact anywhere you have data service. Metro and ATMLocator are two of these applications. Metro allows you to access mass transportation routes from anywhere, which is particularly important in countries where everyone uses public transit. As the name suggests, the ATMLocator application identifies where ATMs are around the world. To use these applications abroad, you need to ensure you'll have mobile phone service where you're going.

    Secured Websites

    • TripIt is one of the premier websites for international travel planning. This site allows users to sign in and submit information about their trip, including places they would like to visit. Some of these sites will work to set up links automatically for maps or other points of interest. The only downside to using a web-based travel planner is that you must have Internet access to get your information.

    Email Forms

    • Another option in international travel planning is to have emailed forms of itineraries. Some websites have options for emailing the information to you. An email often is accessible with data service on a cell phone, rather than through the Internet.

    Templates

    • Templates assist with international travel by showing you the information that you should include when you're planning. A travel template will prompt you to put down contact numbers and other relevant information and help you organize it in a useful fashion.
