Tiger Scout Requirements
The Boy Scouts of America is a youth organization that teaches young people the importance of responsibility and community service. The ranks of scouts are named after various animals. Young scouts who are just beginning their scouting experience can attain the rank of Tiger Cub after completing some basic scouting activities.

The Tiger Totem
-
The Tiger Totem holds the 15 beads that a Cub Scout must acquire in order to earn a Tiger Cub Badge. In order to earn their Tiger Totem, a scout must meet three basic requirements. He must know the scout motto, "do your best," and how to perform the Cub Scout Sign and the Cub Scout Salute.
Cub Scout Sign
-
A Cub Scout performs the Cub Scout Sign by holding up the index and middle fingers on his right hand, as if making a peace sign, while holding his right arm above his head. The two fingers symbolize the ears of a wolf ready to listen, as well as the two parts of the scouting promise to help other people and to obey.
-
Cub Scout Salute
-
Cub Scouts also use two fingers when saluting. Unlike the Cub Scout Sign, in which the scout holds his fingers apart, the Cub Scout Salute requires the scout to hold his two fingers close together for a salute. He then touches the fingers of his right hand either to the brim of his cap or to his eyebrow, if he is not wearing a cap.
Fifteen Beads
-
To earn their Tiger badge, a Cub Scout must earn five beads in each of the three areas covered by the totem. He earns white beads for completing a family activity, brown beads for den activities and black beads for Go-See-It activities. The scout completes the requirements for the family bead tasks at home with members of his family. He must earn all den and Go-See-It beads at den activities as a group. Once he has obtained all 15 beads, the scout earns the Tiger Cub rank.
