Tracking results is a key part of Web marketing

Marketing on the Web can be an overwhelming task. If your only job is to market, then you might not feel weighed down. However, if you have many other responsibilities in addition to marketing, then you need as much help as you can get. Fortunately, there are many tools available to make Web marketing easier.

  1. Analytics Tools

    • You need to track the results of any online marketing campaign. Analytics tools allow you to see information such as where your traffic is coming from, how many unique visitors you receive, their location and how long they stay on the site. Some tools, such as Google Anayltics, have a high learning curve, while others, such as Statcounter, are easier to use.

    Social Media Tools

    • Social media is becoming a preferred marketing choice for many businesses. According to "Inc." website writer Michael Mothner, citing a study by survey group Nielsen, 79 percent of large corporations are using social media to boost business. Managing various social media accounts can be time consuming, so there are many tools that let you manage all of your profiles using one interface.

Hootsuite and TweetDeck let you perform tasks such as writing updates, requesting friends and reading feeds on sites such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Myspace. As a bonus, these tools have apps for both iPhone/iPod Touch and Android devices.

    Keyword Research Tools

    • Keyword research tools are valuable for search engine optimization. You don't want to gear your Web content toward terms that no one is searching for. Keyword research tools give you search terms for your industry and tell you what the competition looks like for those terms. There are many keyword research tools available -- Wordtracker is a popular one. For those who want something free, Google Adwords offers a basic tool.

    Link Popularity Tools

    • Link-building is a very important part of optimizing a site for search engines. Link popularity tools can be used to find out who is linking to your competition so that you can seek out links for yourself. You can also use these tools to evaluate how your link-building strategy is working. Many websites such as LinkPopularity.com offer this service for free.
