The demand for workers in nursing careers in Florida will increase by 14 to 20 percent from 2010 through 2018, according to the State of Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation. This growth in the field of nursing will create more than 56,000 new jobs during that time frame. In South Florida, nursing salaries vary among the region's major metropolitan areas.

Nursing Aides

As of May 2009, the Naples and Marco Island area of South Florida featured the highest average annual rates of pay for nursing aides, explains the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Aides in the cities earned an average of $26,980 per year. Salaries for nursing aides in the metropolitan area comprised of Miami, Miami Beach and Kendall were the lowest in the region at an average of $22,340 annually. In the rural and non-metropolitan areas of South Florida, nursing aides made an average of $23,170 annually.
Licensed Practical Nurses

Licensed practical nurses (LPNs) in the area comprised of West Palm Beach, Boynton Beach and Boca Raton enjoyed the highest wages in South Florida at an average of $42,030 annually as of May 2009, reports the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. At a close second were those in the Cape Coral and Fort Myers area, where LPNs made an average of $42,000 per year. The lowest paid LPNs in the region were those in the Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach area at a yearly average of $40,680. In the non-metropolitan areas of South Florida, salaries for LPNs averaged $39,200 per year.

With average salaries of $68,430, the metropolitan area that consists of Miami, Miami Beach and Kendall served as the highest-paying city for registered nurses (RNs) in South Florida as of May 2009, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Average annual wages in the area were nearly 3 percent above the second-highest paying area for RNs in the region, which was the Naples-San Marco area at an annual average of $66,580. The West Palm Beach, Boynton Beach and Boca Raton area had the lowest average annual wages for RNs at $64,160 per year. In non-metropolitan South Florida, RN wages were an average of $56,510 per year.
Nursing Instructors

Nursing instructors in the Miami, Miami Beach and Kendall area received the highest average annual wages in South Florida at $84,140 per year as of May 2009, reports the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Those in the Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach area made an average of $79,430 per year, while nursing instructors in the area comprised of West Palm Beach, Boynton Beach and Boca Raton averaged $77,620 annually. At an average of $72,870 per year, nursing instructors in the Cape Coral and Fort Myers area were the lowest paid in South Florida.
