Walmart offers a range of scholarships for employees and dependents

Walmart offers a range of philanthropic measures, including college scholarships. It offers four scholarships both for the community, employees and the dependents of employees. For the 2010 to 2011 academic year, more than $9,000 was awarded. All scholarship programs are subject to a set of minimum employment and academic criteria.

  1. The Walmart Associate Scholarship

    • Formally known as the Higher Reach Scholarship, this scholarship is available to Walmart employees. Applicants must have been employed with either Walmart of Sam's Club for at least six months on a part-time of full-time basis. All applicants must have either completed a high school education or have obtained a GED. Any degree level is eligible for the award. Award amounts are made according to the applicant's community involvement and financial need. Application rounds are open several times a year.

    The Walmart Dependent Scholarship

    • This scholarship is available to dependents of Walmart employees. Like the Walmart Associate Scholarship, Walmart employees must have been employed with Walmart or Sam's Club for at least six months before the dependent's application. Awards total $3,000 each. Dependents must have a GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale and be either a U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident of the United States.

    The Walton Family Foundation Scholarship

    • Like the Walmart Dependent Scholarship, this award is only for the dependents of Walmart employees who have been with the company for at least 12 consecutive months prior to application. Dependents must have either achieved an ACT score of 22 or an SAT score of 1030. Eligible applicants must demonstrate financial need. The scholarship amounts to $13,000 paid out over four years.

    The Sam Walton Community Scholarship

    • Named after Walmart's founder, the Sam Walton Community Scholarship is available to members of the community. Applicants cannot be employed with Walmart or be a dependent of a Walmart employee. It awards high school seniors or those with a GED with $3,000 to contribute toward university or college expenses. High school graduates must have at least a 2.5 GPA and have taken either the SAT or ACT. In addition to academic grades, financial need also is taken into account.
