Boston Common is lined with gorgeous trees during the spring.

Massachusetts is one of the original 13 states that formed the United States. It also has some great weather for outdoor activities during the spring, summer and fall months. Plan an outdoor party during that time to take advantage of the weather. When planning your party, check to be sure the place you want to visit is open.

  1. Boston Common

    • Take rides on the famous swan boats in the public Boston Common. These boats were immortalized in the children's book, "Make Way for Ducklings." After the swan boats, walk over to the carousel and take a ride. The carousel has 20 different seating options, including a teacup and frog. Spread out blankets on the grass and have a picnic or bring balls and Frisbees to while away the afternoon.

    Whale Watching

    • A number of operators offer whale watching excursions; many guarantee a whale sighting. Some even offer specialty cruises, such as lobster boils or during the July 4 holiday. Get a group of friends and rent a boat to take you out on the open ocean.

    State Parks and Reservations

    • Massachusetts has many state parks and reservations. Bring a picnic or food that you can cook at public grills. Many of the parks have nature and hiking trails, while others have fishing spots or fresh-water swimming areas. Because they are run by the state, these facilities often are free or have low admission and parking fees.

    Beaches

    • Because Massachusetts is a coastal state, there are many beaches you can utilize for your party. Singing Beach is unique because the wind crossing the dunes causes a singing or barking sound. Castle Island has Fort Independence built on it; although you can't rent the fort for your party, you can go on a tour through it during certain times of the year. The Cape Cod National Seashore has more than 40 miles of beaches, complete with lighthouses and cranberry bogs.

    Amusement Parks

    • If you are looking for something wild and fun, visit one of Massachusetts' many amusement parks for your party. Canobie Lake Park has family rides and kid rides, as well as adult thrill rides. Breezy Picnic Grounds and Waterslides has 300-foot slides leading into pools of water. There are large lakeside beaches, concession stands and picnic tables that can easily hold large parties.
