Things to Put on an Easter Bonnet

Things to Put on an Easter Bonnet thumbnail
Decorate your bonnet with an Easter motif, from ribbons and flowers to chicks and eggs.

Little girls don't usually wear bonnets any more--about the only time you see them is at Easter. Decorate a bonnet for your daughter to wear with her new Easter dress. It doesn't take much time or money; you can buy a plain bonnet at a dollar stores or big box store for just a few dollars. Pull out your crafting items and decorate it in less than 30 minutes. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Ribbons

    • Wrap ribbon around the brim and tie it in a bow. Use colors that match the girl's Easter dress; typically, pastels are used in the spring. Pastel purple, pink, yellow or green are the usual colors. You can use more than one color of ribbon if you wish. Leave a tail trailing down the back of the bonnet for a different look.

    Flowers

    • Place a few flowers on the brim of the bonnet if it is sturdy enough to hold them. Daisies or wildflowers have a soft look for Easter. You can use real flowers, but fake or silk flowers are more common. Purchase them at a craft store; cut off the stems as close to the bud as possible. Use hot glue to attach them to the bonnet.

    Eggs

    • If you are going for a fun bonnet, add some plastic eggs. You can hot glue them around the entire brim of the hat with bits of green paper grass glued between them. For a different look, glue the grass to the top of the hat, then glue several eggs on top of the grass. This hat may not be appropriate for wearing to an Easter church service, but it will look cute when your child goes hunting for Easter eggs.

    Chicks

    • This hat is similar to the hat with eggs, but it uses little chicks instead of eggs. You may be able to purchase chicks at a craft store, or you can make your own with a few yellow pom-poms. Glue a scrap of orange felt for a beak and two tiny google eyes to the front. Place them among green paper grass on the bonnet; again, you can place them along the brim or on top of the hat. Place them in half an eggshell to look like they are hatching.

    Bunny Ears

    • For a fun bonnet, cut out two bunny ear shapes from cardboard. Cover them with white felt and put a small piece of pink felt on the front. Use a hot glue gun to attach the felt to the cardboard. Bend an inch down as the bottom of the each. Glue the inch at the bottom of the two ears to the top of the bonnet.
