Troubleshoot a NetZero DSL connection

A few troubeshooting tips can help you if you have problems connecting a Windows 98 computer to NetZero DSL. For a new DSL account, make sure your Service Ready Date has passed before you begin troubleshooting. NetZero provided you with this date when you signed up. Even if your installation kit arrived early, your connection won't be turned on before this date.

  1. System Requirements

    • Verify your computer meets the minimum system requirements for NetZero DSL. For Windows 98, this includes an Intel Pentium Processor (or the equivalent), 128 MB RAM and a minimum of 125 MB hard drive space.

    Connections

    • Check the Ethernet cable that connects the DSL modem to the computer and ensure the plugs are connected securely. Also check the power cord from the modem to the wall. The power light should be lit on your modem.

    Filters

    • Make sure there's no DSL filter between the modem phone line and the phone jack. During the installation process you should have placed DSL filters on all the other phone jacks, but there should not be one on the modem line. Also make sure the phone line is securely connected to the modem and the wall jack.

    Modem configuration

    • Install NetZero's modem software from the installation disk if you haven't done so already. Insert the installation CD and follow the wizard that automatically opens. The wizard will configure your modem and allow you to connect to the Internet.
