In today's world, it's important to have a diversity of cultures in the workforce. If you are a minority such as a Latino or Hispanic student, and wish to enter the field of psychology, you may be eligible for a scholarship. When you reach your goal, you will be in a position to benefit both children and adults in a positive manner, as well as promote cultural awareness in communities across the country.

  1. National Association of School Psychologists - Educational Research Trust Minority Scholarship

    • The National Association of School Psychologists -- Educational Research Trust (NASP - ERT) minority scholarship is for graduate minority students. This scholarship is for $5,000 and is given by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). To be eligible to apply, you must be a U.S. citizen and be enrolled or accepted in an accredited psychology program. Your career goal must be to become a school psychologist. You must be a member of the NASP and have a grade point average of at least 3.0. A minimum of one scholarship is awarded annually.

    Gates Millennium Scholars

    • This is a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) scholarship awards are available to several minorities, including Hispanic American students. This scholarship provides financial assistance for undergraduate students in every discipline area, and to graduate students in several disciplines including education and public health. To apply, you must have at least a 3.3 grade point average, have a need for financial help, and have strong leadership skills. You can attend the institute of higher learning of your choice. Your financial need determines the amount of the scholarship.

    Predoctoral Fellowship in Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services

    • The Predoctoral Fellowship in Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (MHSAS) is a government program for all students, but especially minorities, that are applying to a doctoral program for a career in clinical, counseling, or school psychology. To be eligible to apply, you must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, must be committed to and have a working knowledge of minority behavioral health, accept the training environment selected, have active goals and accomplishments, and have three letters of recommendation. The financial stipend varies each year and is in addition to the support of the university you are attending. The stipend is available for three years, but you must apply for it annually.

    Scholarship for Disadvantaged Students

    • The Scholarship for Disadvantaged Students program provides financial assistance for students enrolled full-time in an accredited school, and pursuing a career in the behavioral and mental health fields. You must come from a disadvantaged background as defined by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. To apply for this scholarship, you must request assistance through your school's financial aid office. The school chooses the recipients of the scholarship and determines the amount of financial aid awarded.
