The first "Ski Challenge" game came out in 2005. A new version has been released every year, through 2011. The newest edition is available for download at the "Ski Challenge" website. Older versions can be downloaded from freeware websites, such as Softonic. They are compatible with Windows gaming platforms, such as XP, Vista and Windows 7. The operating system they operate with depends on the age of the game. Older games, such as "Ski Challenge 2005" is not compatible with newer operating systems like Vista or Windows 7. "Ski Challenge" games are also compatible with Apple operating systems.

The gaming controls in each "Ski Challenge" game are very simple. Players control their skier using the arrow keys on the keyboard. Up propels the skier forward, down brakes his momentum, left turns left and right turns right. Players can go to the "option" menu to change the controls if they like. There is no jump button, as skiers cannot jump at will in real life. "Ski Challenge" attempts to be as realistic as possible. Instead, skiers can get air in the game by hitting dips and inclines in the track. They can also get air by hitting ramps placed throughout the course.
