Ski Challenge Games

Skiing simulation games mimic the sport of skiing on a computer. "Ski Challenge" is one of these skiing simulations. Available to download online, "Ski Challenge" games have realistic graphics, realistic physics and simple to understand controls that make the games easy to play but challenging to master.

  1. History

    • The first "Ski Challenge" game came out in 2005. A new version has been released every year, through 2011. The newest edition is available for download at the "Ski Challenge" website. Older versions can be downloaded from freeware websites, such as Softonic. They are compatible with Windows gaming platforms, such as XP, Vista and Windows 7. The operating system they operate with depends on the age of the game. Older games, such as "Ski Challenge 2005" is not compatible with newer operating systems like Vista or Windows 7. "Ski Challenge" games are also compatible with Apple operating systems.

    Cost

    • Each version of "Ski Challenge" is available for free download. This extends from the earliest abandonware game editions to the most recent editions. Instead of charging money, the game development and release are paid for by sponsors. These sponsors earn the right to place advertisements in the game, including advertisements along the tracks, loading screen ads and other advertisements. Players can then click on these ads to go directly to the sponsors' websites and check out the products offered.

    Game Controls

    • The gaming controls in each "Ski Challenge" game are very simple. Players control their skier using the arrow keys on the keyboard. Up propels the skier forward, down brakes his momentum, left turns left and right turns right. Players can go to the "option" menu to change the controls if they like. There is no jump button, as skiers cannot jump at will in real life. "Ski Challenge" attempts to be as realistic as possible. Instead, skiers can get air in the game by hitting dips and inclines in the track. They can also get air by hitting ramps placed throughout the course.

    Features

    • "Ski Challenge" games use real gaming courses to make its games as realistic as possible. It features online playing against real life opponents, including skiing tournaments. Each edition features its own unique racing schedule, although older editions cannot compete in the tournaments of newer editions and vice versa. The gaming language can be set during the installation process and features languages from around the world, including English, French and Spanish. Players can create their own ski groups and invite friends. These skiing groups can then compete against other groups for bragging rights.
