Doctoral dissertation grants provide doctoral students with funding to aid in the completion of their dissertation studies and to support the dissemination of high-quality research. Eligibility for the awards is based on academic achievement, feasibility of the proposed research topic, dissertation topic approval and the completion of all pre-dissertation requirements. Grants range from $1,000 to $20,000, depending on the academic institution or organization sponsoring the award.

The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Research Foundation Michael J. Barrett Doctoral Dissertation Grant, is awarded to doctoral candidates studying internal audit-related program areas. Grant awards range from $1,000 to $10,000. Suggestions for priority internal audit research topic areas are updated annually on the IIA Research Foundation website. To apply for the grant, candidates must be completing a doctoral degree in the areas of accounting, auditing or business at an accredited academic institution and plan to teach in the field of auditing for a minimum of two years. Candidates must also submit a project proposal that includes the name of the dissertation, contact information and qualifications, research overview and proposed project time line. Proposals are due by March 11 of each calendar year.
Institute for Supply Management: Doctoral Dissertation Grant Program

The Institute for Supply Management (ISM) Doctoral Dissertation Grant Program awards up to $10,000 in funding to doctoral students studying purchasing and supply management-related fields. To apply for the award, candidates must be enrolled in an accredited Ph.D or doctor of business administration (DBA) program in the United States and major in the areas of business, economics, industrial engineering, logistics, management, purchasing or a related field. Applications must include a letter of application, official academic transcripts, proposal abstract, three letters of recommendation, curriculum vitae and letter of acceptance from the applicant's dissertation supervisor. Applications are due by January 31 of each calendar year.

Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation MMUF Dissertation Grants

The Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation provides Dissertation Grants of up to $20,0000 for students who have participated in the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Program (MMUF). Eligibility for the award is based on enrollment in an MMUF-recognized Ph.D. program and completion of a comprehensive examination, coursework, dissertation research and fieldwork, and faculty supervisor approval of the dissertation topic. Applications must include a prospectus, dissertation chapter draft, personal statement, two letters of recommendation, budget, declaration of previous awards and academic transcripts. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.
National Science Foundation: SBE Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grants

The National Science Foundation Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grants provide funding to students finishing a doctoral degree to aid in the completion of their dissertation research. The funding covers areas not normally covered by a candidate's academic institution by supporting off-campus field-based research and large-scale data analysis. Eligibility for the grants is based on the scientific contribution and importance of the research, and the appropriateness of the proposed research methods. Application dates vary depending on the grant program applied for.
