Working on charitable projects, such as making quilts for local organizations, is one way to bring your team together. The team can choose a local organization and help make quilts for those in need, with everyone using the sewing skills they already have -- some members of staff already might have basic quilting skills, and others can have responsibilities for organizing pick-up and drop-off of materials, or publicizing the event within their organization. If many people on the team are accomplished at sewing, then creating a commemorative quilt for the company's anniversary, or depicting the history of the town in which the company is headquartered, cannot only build teamwork, but also create a significant piece of art to display in the office. Team members also can create quilts depicting company values or history.
Organizing
-
Open events where all attendees simply show up to help make charity quilts require little organization. However, one person or a small team should be making sure that there are adequate supplies, including fabric and tools, as well as refreshments. Coordination with the receiving charity as to needs and specifications is important, along with managing sign-ups for event attendees and arranging drop-off or pickup of finished quilts. If a group artwork is the focus of the effort, one or two people should draft the design, and others can make individual quilt blocks. To keep a project on track where people may be working at different levels and paces, email reminders and sign-up sheets are essential, as is having a team leader who monitors progress.

Promotion
-
Group quilt activities can be promoted just like team-building program; for instance, through emails, social media updates, flyers and word of mouth. In addition, notifying area media of any special charity project can lead to increased interest.
Follow-Up
-
Once a team-building quilt activity is complete, following up with participants is essential. The entire company should be notified of the recipients of the quilts, with an article in the company newsletter, for instance. Management also can ask team participants' feedback on the results of the event, in terms of better teamwork, more productivity and their own personal satisfaction.
