Youth sports parks provide baseball leagues for younger and older kids.

Youth sports parks provide entertainment and activities for younger children as well as teenagers. In the greater Birmingham area, there are many youth sports parks with programs and activities that appeal to many interests of your child. Many of the sports parks also have competing leagues. Often the sports parks require a membership for children to compete but the fees are relatively low, especially since the programs last longer than a few weeks, in most cases.

  1. YMCA of Birmingham

    • With multiple branches in the greater Birmingham area, the YMCA of Birmingham provides one of the oldest youth sports parks. The state-of-the-art center was built in downtown Birmingham in 2006 and provides a 30-foot climbing tower, dance studio, outdoor pool, full sports field and basketball courts. Also the YMCA of Birmingham provides a daycare center. From an after school program to youth sports league, Birmingham's YMCA also offers leagues for several sports including soccer, baseball, football, softball, basketball and volleyball.

    Hoover Youth Sports Park

    • Another youth sports park within the greater Birmingham area is Hoover youth sports park. There are four major sites around Birmingham. These include Hoover East for baseball, football and cheerleading; Shades Mountain for baseball; Hoover Central for softball; and Hoover soccer club. In addition, there are locations for tennis such as Birchtree tennis courts and Sertoma Park, which has a playground, four tennis courts, gymnasium, parking and four acres of field. Hoover sports park provides programs for different ages of youth groups including the "Start Smart Program" and "Hoover 15-18" program. Hoover also runs a competitive youth basketball league for ages 6 to 17 years old, girls and boys.

    Homewood Parks and Recreation

    • Another youth sports park with leagues is Homewood Parks and Recreation. Located in the southwest Birmingham area, Homewood provides youth sports baseball, basketball, cheerleading, football, soccer, softball, tennis, and wrestling for girls and boys. Each program comes at a cost but provides for training and daily activity costs. The Homewood Community center is the main facility and allows parents to sign up children for youth sports programs. The main community center also has a weight room, cardio room, indoor pool, multi-use sport court, and indoor track. In addition, Homewood has spring, summer, and winter camp programs for youths.

    Mountain Brook Sports Park

    • In the southwest Birmingham area, Mountain Brook Sports Park offers youth lacrosse and soccer facilities. With three full-size lacrosse fields and three soccer fields, Mountain Brook Sports Park offered programs for youths starting in 2007. The $2.5 million campaign allowed for the building of these fields and startup of the programs for all age groups and genders. Mountain Brook is a part of the Greater Birmingham Youth Lacrosse Association and offers league competition for youths starting as young as first grade for boys and fifth grade for girls. Some teams receive sponsoring from YMCA. However, anyone can sponsor a team through Mountain Brook.
