The Roles of a Classroom Supervisor


Teachers provide the necessary educational environment for students to learn the fundamentals of mathematics, English, geography and many other lessons. These teachers develop their knowledge about teaching within an actual classroom as student teachers. Classroom supervisors will observe the student teachers to provide the leadership, knowledge and guidance for the student teachers to excel and grow into experienced educators.

Consultant Specialists

  • Acting as consultants, classroom supervisors provide services to individual teachers and groups in curriculum instructional methodology. The supervisor will furnish the necessary educational information and suggestions, guiding the student teacher in the proper use of teacher manuals. The supervisor will help the student teacher in planning instructional materials and procedures to create specialized teaching skills.

Education Coordinator

  • Classroom supervisors take on the role of education coordinators to plan, arrange and conduct in-service programs designed for teachers. This process allows for student teachers to observe teaching activities in the classroom and interpret the necessary learning methods to implement with individual students and student groups.

Group Leadership

  • Classroom supervisors assist teacher groups in finding their potential to improve their curriculum and instruction for the students under their care. Working in a group leadership role, the supervisor helps the student teachers to achieve personal goals. Supervisors in group leadership roles guide these student teachers to create learning activities for the entire class in certain subject matters, carry out general classroom duties and interact with other school personnel as well as with the students' parents.

Teacher Evaluator

  • A classroom supervisor will act as an evaluator to assist student teachers in reviewing curriculum and instructions to locate answers to teaching problems. The classroom supervisor will also help the student teacher to assess her own strengths and weaknesses while finding ways to address these issues. Along with providing the student teacher with evaluations of her teaching methods, the classroom supervisor will inform the college supervisor, superintendent or principal of the student teacher's progress.
