Ideas on Painting Letters Over a Baby Crib
Once the decor of your baby nursery has been established, you can create designs for the walls. Whether you choose to paint your baby's name, the alphabet or a term of endearment like "sweet pea" or "dreamer," you can incorporate color and design to add a focal point above the baby's crib. Use a combination of lettering styles for a whimsical look and blend colors to complement the decor of the room.

Stencils
-
Stencils can be used to paint lettering on the walls of your baby nursery. The stencils can be laid straight across, close together, separated by nature images or in a variety of combinations. Combine lettering with images to create cute scenes for your baby to gaze at. Vinyl lettering or stencils can be used to help you paint on the wall. For vinyl, place a letter on the wall, encase it with a vinyl circle and paint the existing space around the letter and circle. When the paint dries, peel the vinyl away and you are left with the letter within the circle. Repeat until you finish the word.
Freehand
-
If you have some artistic capabilities, you can freehand lettering directly onto the wall. If not, you can enlist the help of a local artist or a friend or relative. Once the letters are in place, you can decorate them further by adding flourishes, floral designs and polka dots. One idea is to paint your baby's name into the branches of a tree. Other themes include a woodland meadow, a city, balloons, zoo animals, farm animals and anything else that appeals to you.

Wood
-
Wooden lettering can be hung above your baby's crib with loops of ribbon or affixed directly to the wall. One idea is to alternately paint and paper the letters for different colors and textures. Use scrapbook paper, wall paper or even wrapping paper in patterns that catch your eye. Wooden letters are inexpensive and can be found in your local craft store. Buy ones with a hole for hanging or use a drill to make a small hole at the top. Decorate the letters and let them dry completely before you pull ribbon through the hole.
Other Materials
-
One idea is to paint a small scene directly onto the wall and paint letters onto another material like canvas. Display the letters on top of the scene in a visually appealing manner. When hanging anything above a crib, secure it and keep the crib a few inches away from the wall. Other ideas include cross-stitch or needlpoint craft for baby's name, stuffed pillow-style letters and cardboard letters to be decorated in any style.
