Use a can of spinach to play a Popeye themed party game.

Popeye the Sailor Man is a fictional hero appearing in television shows, comic strips and animated films. When planning Popeye themed games, use your imagination to create games that correspond to the characters. A few supplies and some enthusiastic players are all you need to get started. Awarding small prizes, such as Popeye themed stickers, coloring books and tattoos to all game winners will keep the players ready for the next game.

  1. Spinach Can Pass

    • Have all the party guests stand or sit in a circle and hand one player a can of spinach. Play music and tell the guests to pass the can of spinach around the circle. When the music stops, the person holding the can of spinach is out of the game. The last player remaining wins a prize. Do not let the person controlling the music see the players to make the game fair.

    Dancing Statues

    • All the girls will pretend to be Olive Oyl, and the boys will pretend to be Popeye. Play the Popeye theme song and have the children dance around until the music stops. Once the music stops, the players must freeze. Any player caught moving after the music stops is out of the game. Keep playing until only one player remains, which is the winner. If you have a Popeye movie or cartoon taped, play it before you start the game so the guests can see some of the things the characters do, such as Popeye swinging his arms or how Olive Oyl dances.

    Pin the Pipe on Popeye

    • Hang a large poster of Popeye on the wall, and print several pictures of Popeye's pipe. Write each player's name on one of the pipes, and put double-sided tape on the back. Blindfold the first player, and spin her three times. Tell her to pin the pipe on Popeye's mouth. The player who pins the pipe closest to the correct spot wins the game.

    Corners

    • Select a party room or backyard that has four corners. In each corner, place a poster of a character from Popeye, such as Olive Oyl, Wimpy, Bluto and Popeye. To start the game, all players must stand in a corner. Play the Popeye theme song and have the party guests walk around until the music stops. When the music stops, you will draw a character name from a hat and any players standing in that character corner are out of the game. The last player standing wins the game.
