Black Journalism Scholarships
Black journalism students can receive assistance with meeting the costs of an education. Educational expenses such as tuition, fees and books can be covered by scholarship funds. Several organizations such as the United Negro College Fund and National Association of Black Journalists award scholarships annually.

Chips Quinn Scholars Program

The Chips Quinn Scholars Program provides internships and financial assistance to blacks majoring in print journalism. As of the 2009-2010 academic school year, the program awards up to $1,000 in scholarship funds to selected students enrolled in a historically black college or university. The program is open to college juniors, seniors or recent graduates. The paid internship lasts 10 to 12 weeks at a participating newspaper in the U.S.
NABJ Scholarships

The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) offers several scholarships for black journalism students. As of the 2010-2011 school year, students could apply for scholarships worth up to $25,000. Applicants must be members of the NABJ and be enrolled in an accredited college or university. Membership applications can be submitted online, by mail or fax. Applicants must submit five samples of their work and an essay detailing their accomplishments as a journalist.

The Colorado Association of Black Journalists Scholarship

The Colorado Association of Black Journalists offers financial aid to black students majoring in journalism at a Colorado college. The scholarship is also open to high school seniors who will be attending a Colorado college. As of the 2009-2010 academic school year, the organization awarded from $1,000 to $5,000 to select applicants. Students must meet or exceed a 3.0 GPA. Selected winners may also receive a free membership to the organization for a year and be appointed a student reporter.
Allison E. Fisher Memorial Fund

The Allison E. Fisher Memorial Fund is administered by the National Association of Black Journalists. The scholarship provided $2,500 as of the 2009-2010 school year to select students majoring in journalism. Students majoring in photography, radio and television are also eligible to apply. An applicant must meet or exceed a 3.0 GPA and be attending a four-year accredited university. Students must be a member of the NABJ to apply.
